Who we are
PDF Pro: Editor & Viewer ("the app") is published by PDF Pro: Editor & Viewer, based in Toronto, Canada. If you have a question about your privacy, write to djxtrump@gmail.com.
The short version
- Your documents stay on your phone. The app does not upload your PDFs, Word, Excel or PowerPoint files, your photos or your camera pictures anywhere.
- You don't need an account. Signing in with Google is optional.
- We collect a small amount of usage and crash information so we can fix bugs and see which tools people use.
- If you use the free version, the app may show ads from Google AdMob. Pro users don't see ads.
What the app handles on your phone
The app opens, edits, converts and saves the files you choose. To do that it reads and writes documents in your phone's storage, uses the camera when you scan a page or a signature, and can read text out loud using your phone's own text-to-speech engine. Everything it does with the content of your files happens on your device:
- Reading, searching, annotating, filling forms, signing, merging, splitting, organizing, compressing and comparing PDFs.
- Locking and unlocking a PDF with a password. The password is used on the device to create or open the file; we never see it.
- Converting between PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and images.
- Recognizing text (OCR) and scanning pages with Google's ML Kit, which runs on your device through Google Play services. The first time you use the scanner, Google Play services may download the scanner component, which needs an internet connection.
- Keeping backups of your edits ("version history"), your bookmarks, recent files, saved signatures and recently used colors. These are stored in the app's private space on your phone.
- The optional app lock uses your phone's fingerprint, face or screen lock. We don't receive or store any biometric data. Your phone handles it.
Because Android's own backup can copy app data to your Google account when you have backup switched on, some of this app data may be included in that backup. You control that in your phone's Settings.
What leaves your phone, and who receives it
The app connects to the internet in these situations. None of them sends the content of your files.
1. Usage and crash information (Google Firebase)
We use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring and Remote Config, all provided by Google, to understand which features are used, to find crashes, to measure how fast the app starts, and to switch features on or off remotely. This includes things like which tool you opened (for example "merge PDF"), how many pages or files were involved, what kind of file it was (such as PDF or Word), whether an action succeeded, whether you are signed in, your phone model and Android version, app version, crash reports, timing measurements, an identifier for this installation of the app, and, if the Advertising ID permission is enabled on your device, your Advertising ID. We do not put file names or file contents in these events. Google's own terms and privacy policy apply to how Firebase handles that data: policies.google.com/privacy. Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months, the standard retention period for Google Analytics for Firebase; crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.
2. Purchases (Google Play Billing)
The app offers an optional Pro purchase. Payments are handled entirely by Google Play, so we never see your card details. Your purchase and subscription status is managed through your Google Play account.
3. Signing in with Google (optional)
If you choose to sign in from Settings, Google and Firebase Authentication give the app your name, email address, profile photo and a Google user ID. The app shows them in Settings. You can use every tool without signing in. See "How long we keep things, and deleting your data" below for how to delete your account data.
4. Things you ask for that need the web
- Import from a link downloads the file at the address you type.
- Web Page to PDF loads the page at the address you type inside the app to turn it into a PDF. That website can see your IP address and set cookies as it would in any browser. We do not receive the pages.
- Editor fonts download font files from Google Fonts' public repository on GitHub
(
raw.githubusercontent.com/google/fonts) when you choose a font that isn't already on the phone. GitHub can see your IP address and which font you asked for.
5. Ads (Google AdMob)
If you use the free version, the app may show ads, such as an ad when you open the app, served by Google AdMob. Pro users don't see ads, and the app doesn't request any while you have Pro. To choose and measure ads, Google may collect your Advertising ID (if it's enabled on your device), your approximate location from your IP address, your device and app information, and how you interact with the ads. Ads never receive the content or names of your files. Google's own terms and privacy policy apply to how AdMob uses that data: policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can reset or delete your Advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your phone's settings.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for anything other than what is described on this page.
Permissions, and why the app asks
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| All files access / storage | To find and list the documents on your phone, open them, and save edited or converted files. Without it you would have to pick every file by hand. Also used by the Recent Files widget. |
| Camera | To scan pages and to capture a signature. Pictures stay on your phone unless you share them. |
| Notifications | For local messages such as "your file is ready" and a gentle "continue reading" reminder. You can turn each kind off in Android's notification settings. |
| Internet / network state | For the situations listed above, purchases, and sign-in. |
| Biometrics | Only for the optional app lock. |
| Advertising ID | Added by Google's Firebase and ads libraries. Used for analytics and, in the free version, for ads. You can reset or delete your Advertising ID in your phone's settings. |
| Billing | So you can buy Pro through Google Play. |
Children
The app is not made for children and is not directed at them. It is intended for users aged 13 and up, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has given us personal information, write to djxtrump@gmail.com and we will delete it.
How long we keep things, and deleting your data
- On your phone: your files and the app's private data stay until you delete them or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes the app's private data. Files you saved to Documents or other folders are yours and stay there.
- Analytics and crash data: kept by Firebase as described above. To ask us to delete data linked to you, write to djxtrump@gmail.com from the address you use with the app and tell us which device or account it concerns.
- If you signed in with Google: you can request deletion of your account data at any time by filling out our data deletion form with the email address you signed in with, or by writing to djxtrump@gmail.com. We process deletion requests within 30 days.
Your choices
- Use the app without signing in.
- Deny or revoke the camera, notification or storage permissions in Android Settings (some tools will stop working without them).
- Reset your Advertising ID in Android Settings → Google → Ads.
- Turn off backup for the app in your phone's backup settings.
- Ask us to delete data, at djxtrump@gmail.com or through the data deletion form.
Security
Your files stay on your device, so their safety depends first on your phone's lock and encryption. When you lock a PDF, it is protected with standard AES-256 encryption. Traffic between the app and the services above uses encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't promise otherwise.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date, and for significant changes we'll tell you in the app. Please check back from time to time.
